The Bipolar Bears – Australia’s Best Loved Band For Mental Health

The BiPolar Bears are one of Victoria’s rock’n’roll institutions, playing their own brand of rock, reggae and blues for over 16 years.

Having a serious mental illness hasn’t held the band back. They’ve performed hundreds of gigs from the Sydney Opera House to psych wards, the iconic Espy Hotel, St. Kilda Festival, Federation Square, Brisbane’s Powerhouse and a myriad of other events.

The band describe themselves as having a serious work ethic. Says Kevin, the band’s bass player, “we work hard, write hard and play hard – we’re about making music”.  The band gives members a great working environment, supporting their creativity and giving purpose and employment.

The BiPolar Bears’ music speaks of the band members’ lives and experiences, sometimes pure hedonistic rock and at others a powerful expression of life’s challenges.  Songs lyrics like “I’m not schizophrenic, I’m just paranoid, so why don’t you all, go take a Polaroid” …
The Bears have collaborated on songwriting and performances with some of Australia’s iconic music artists including Tim Rogers (You Am I), Ross Hannaford (Daddy Cool), Pete Satchell (Dallas Crane), Russell Morris and of course our good friend Heidi Everett.
The Bears new EP “So Real” features 5 original songs, including the hit song ‘Getaway’ from the SBS TV series, is to be launched on 23 January at Pure Pop in St Kilda. Available online and in stores from late Jan.
