Treatments For Bipolar Disorder
Although there is no cure for bipolar disorder, there are several different treatments for bipolar disorder. Below I will list a few treatments for bipolar disorder:
1. Mood Stabilizers
This is a medication that is designed to help relieve or delay bipolar depression and mania episodes.
2. Antidepressants
People that may be suffering from a depressive episode can use a mood stabilizer with an antidepressant. However, if this medication is used alone it can actually help trigger a mania episode.
3. Antipsychotic
Severe cases of mania or depressive episodes can lead to psychosis. When this happens it can be treated with Antipsychotic. This medication can be used alone or combined with others for the treatment of bipolar disorder.
4. Electroconvulsive Therapy or ECT
This is not really a medication for bipolar disorder but rather it is a treatment to help people that are suffering with extreme episodes. This is also good for those that dont respond positively to medications.
ECT is a therapy that is designed to help control acute depressive and manic symptoms. This treatment for bipolar disorder can effectively reduce mood instability and cycling. Through a management plan, the bipolar disorder patient can return to his/her normal life again.
Even though medications are not guaranteed to remove a condition like bipolar disorder, the mood swings that one faces can be reduced and stabilized.
With the proper medications and treatments for bipolar disorder, the condition can be stabilized and controlled.
