If you are keen to watch a good, quality movie about bipolar disorder, you could be out of luck. Whilst many good movies have been made featuring various types of mental illness, recent movies about bipolar disorder are conspicuously absent from the list.

Tip! Omega 3 fish oil and other natural supplements are helping many bipolar sufferers overcome their depression symptoms.

The most recent movie about bipolar disorder goes back to 1993, when Richard Gere starred in the film “Mr. Jones” as a classic manic depressive. Even then, the movie was universally panned by the critics, who thought the idea of introducing a romantic relationship between the patient and the therapist was ethically flawed.

Bipolar sufferers experience intense mood swings, and communicating these feelings to a non-bipolar person can be difficult. Movies can bridge that gap and make mental illness more accessible.

A perfect opportunity now exists for someone with drive, courage and determination to write a script for the next big Hollywood movie about bipolar. Who will that be?

To find out more, Ray (Deep Blue Calm) has written a very interesting article discussing the topic “Movies About Bipolar Disorder”.

Edgar Allan Poe, Honore de Balzac, Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Audrey Hepburn, and even Jim Carrey all had something in common. Aside from being renowned artists, they were also afflicted with depression. It has been a great mystery how these men and women, praised for their genius in film, on the canvass, or in using their pen, could be victims of terrible melancholy.

As defined, creativity is the ability to see something in a new way; or the capacity to design new inventions, solve problems, produce works of art, or develop a new and original idea. Depression, on the other hand, is a deep feeling of being sad and despondent. It is usually accompanied by feelings of guilt, helplessness, and hopelessness. In extreme cases of depression, thoughts of death even enter the mind of the gravely melancholic artist.

Studies have established that there is a very close relationship between creativity and depression. Many artists are prone to depression due to the highly emotional aspect of their craft. The angst and solitude that usually surrounds the creative process also makes them vulnerable to bouts of sadness. The strong emotions that compel artists to create are the same forces that lead them to pits of depression.

Research on Natural Supplements

U of C Faculty of Medicine professors Bonnie Kaplan and Steve Simpson researched a broad-spectrum nutritional supplement containing vitamins, metals and antioxidants in 2000.

“The patients studied by the Calgary team found their symptoms are reduced by more than 50 per cent compared to the symptoms they experienced while taking their usual medications,” said Kaplan. “For some patients, the supplement has entirely replaced their psychotropic medication.

Kaplan says that in addition to the treatment of bipolar disorder, the supplement may have other potential uses. “The reality is that it’s not restricted to bipolar disorder,” said Kaplan. “It looks especially promising as a mood stabilizer in a variety of situations.”

The people who’ve gone on the supplement are not ending back in hospitals,” said Kaplan. “There’s savings in hospitalization [costs.]”
